NDLEA Captures UK-Wanted Drug Kingpin After 15 Years on the Run!

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a fugitive drug kingpin, Uzoma Valentine Ilomuanya, who had been wanted by authorities in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom for more than 15 years, in what officials describe as a major breakthrough against transnational drug trafficking networks.
The 58-year-old suspect was apprehended in Lagos during a coordinated operation by the agency’s Special Operations Unit. According to NDLEA officials, Ilomuanya had long been on the radar of law enforcement agencies over alleged involvement in international narcotics trafficking, evading arrest across multiple jurisdictions for over a decade.
Authorities say the arrest followed sustained intelligence gathering and inter-agency cooperation aimed at dismantling drug trafficking routes linked to Europe. The operation is seen as a significant development in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to curb illicit drug flows and strengthen collaboration with international partners, including the United Kingdom.
Security analysts note that the capture highlights Nigeria’s strategic role in global counternarcotics operations, particularly as criminal networks increasingly exploit West Africa as a transit hub for narcotics destined for European markets. The NDLEA has in recent years intensified its enforcement actions, targeting high-profile traffickers and disrupting organized drug syndicates operating across borders.
The agency has not yet disclosed full details of potential extradition proceedings but confirmed that the suspect remains in custody pending further investigation and possible prosecution under Nigerian and international law.
The arrest underscores renewed momentum in Nigeria’s anti-narcotics campaign and signals strengthened cooperation between domestic and foreign law enforcement agencies in tackling organized drug crime.
