NMDPRA, NUPRC Chiefs Resign as Tinubu Names New Oil Regulators

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has requested the Senateโs approval of new chief executives for Nigeriaโs key oil regulatory agencies following the resignation of the top officials of theNigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). The move signals a significant shakeโup in the countryโs petroleum regulatory framework. [1]Engineer Farouk Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of the NMDPRA, and Gbenga Komolafe, the CEO of the NUPRC, both stepped down from their positions on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, after serving since their appointments under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) in 2021.
