JOS, PLATEAU STATE — A suspected thief was apprehended on New Year’s Eve in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos after robbing a man who was heading to a church crossover service late on December 31, 2025. The suspect allegedly seized the victim’s phones, power bank, and cash, and then demanded an additional ₦50,000under threat of lethal force. [1]According to eyewitness accounts and community reports, the robber stopped the victim on the road, grabbed his belongings, and ordered him to call someone immediately — warning that he would be shot if he failed to comply. The victim managed to contact his church leader, who arrived at the scene shortly after, accompanied by a police van under the pretense of bringing cash for the victim. This ruse ultimately led to the suspect’s arrest, while the suspect’s associates reportedly fled the scene upon seeing the authorities arrive.
Residents in Angwan Rukuba have expressed shock and relief following the arrest, noting an increase in robberies in parts of Jos during the festive period. Security sources say the arrest demonstrates the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement in tackling street crimes in Plateau State. [2]
