Stop Blaming Governors Alone, FG Takes 52% of Revenue — Radda

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has called for a fairer public discourse on Nigeria’s economic challenges, stating that state governors should not be solely blamed for underdevelopment, as the federal government takes 52% of the nation’s revenue allocation. Speaking at a public function over the weekend, Governor Radda explained that the fiscal structure of Nigeria significantly limits the capacity of state governments to deliver robust infrastructure and social services, especially in rural areas. He noted that while governors are closer to the people and often face pressure to perform, the bulk of national revenue is centrally controlled by the federal government. “It is unfair to heap the blame entirely on governors when the revenue allocation formula gives only 26% to states and 20% to local governments, while the federal government controls the lion’s share,” Radda said. He urged citizens and civil society to focus more on how federal allocations are utilized and demand transparency at all levels. The governor’s remarks add to the ongoing national debate on restructuring and revenue decentralization.
