Nigerian Man Dies While Trying to Rescue Goat from Deep Well in Oyo!

Ibadan, Oyo State — Tragedy struck communities in Oyo State as the Oyo State Fire Service has confirmed the recovery of two corpses from separate well incidents, including one involving a man who reportedly lost his life while attempting to rescue a goat from a deep well.
According to a statement from Moroof Akinwande, Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reforms and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service Agency, fire officers recovered the body of a 45‑year‑old man from a deep well in the Mokola area of Saki West Local Government Area.
Akinwande explained that the incident occurred on Monday night after the agency received a distress call that someone had fallen into a well. Upon arrival, rescue teams found the man trapped in the deep well. It was later revealed that he had entered the well in a desperate bid to rescue a goat that had fallen into it but became trapped himself.
In a separate incident on Tuesday morning, fire service personnel also recovered the body of 30‑year‑old Shina Adedeji from a well at the Aaje Ikose area of Ogbomoso North Local Government Area. Akinwande stated that Adedeji fell into the well while trying to retrieve a fetcher and was overcome by toxic ammonia gas inside the shaft.
Following the dual recoveries, the Fire Service Chairman warned residents to exercise caution and prioritise safety in their everyday activities, emphasizing that life is precious and irreplaceable.
The Oyo State Fire Service continues to urge members of the public to avoid risky ventures without proper safety measures and to always call trained rescue professionals in emergency situations.
