La Liga Derby: Atletico Thrash Real Madrid 5–2!
Reported by David Joshua | Sele Media Africa
Atletico Madrid stunned La Liga leaders Real Madrid with a dominant 5-2 victory in the Madrid derby on Saturday, ending Los Blancos’ unbeaten run in emphatic fashion at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Julian Alvarez was the star of the night, netting a brace, while Antoine Griezmann, Alvaro Morata, and Samuel Lino also found the back of the net for Diego Simeone’s side. Real Madrid’s two goals came from Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr., but their efforts were not enough to mount a comeback.
The result leaves Real Madrid vulnerable at the top of the table, while Atletico climb up to third place, signaling a potential title challenge.
Coach Diego Simeone hailed his players’ “intensity and focus,” describing the win as one of the most complete performances of the season.
