China Backs Nigeriaโs Amid U.S. Military Threat!

In a significant diplomatic intervention, Peopleโs Republic of China has voiced strong support for Nigeria following threats of military action from Donald Trump over alleged Christian killings. [1]
Speaking in Beijing on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning described Nigeria as a โcomprehensive strategic partnerโ and emphatically opposed any countryโs use of religion or human rights as a pretext for interference in another nationโs internal affairs. โChina firmly supports the Nigerian government in leading its people on the development path suited to its national conditions,โ she said. [2]
Her comments came in the wake of Trumpโs declaration that the U.S. would โimmediately stop all aidโ and potentially deploy forces โgunsโaโblazingโ in Nigeria if alleged violence against Christians continues. [3]
The Nigerian government had earlier rejected the claims and reaffirmed its commitment to religious freedom and national sovereignty. Chinaโs firm stance underscores not only its deepening ties with Nigeria in trade and infrastructure, but also signals growing global competition over influence in Africa at a time when sovereignty and external intervention are intensely contested.
