Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to political office holders in Nigeria, cautioning that those who support or align with individuals known for betrayal will inevitably face betrayal and its consequences.
Wike made the remarks on Saturday, 7 February 2026, during the commissioning of the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadorsโ headquarters in Port Harcourt. He warned senators, members of the House of Representatives, ministers, and particularly second-term governors, that backing individuals he described as betrayers would lead to personal and political downfall.
According to the FCT Minister, political loyalty and integrity are non-negotiable, describing betrayal as a divinely assigned consequence for those who associate with disloyal figures. He stated that betrayal would be the โportionโ of such politicians, adding that when it eventually happens, they may โcollapseโ and be unable to defend themselves.
Wike also cautioned incumbent governors planning to install successors, warning that supporting betrayers would result in swift disloyalty from their chosen successors once they assume office.
Drawing from personal experience, Wike reportedly referenced his political fallout with his successor in Rivers State, noting that while his own experience unfolded over time, others may face betrayal almost immediately.
The warning reinforces Wikeโs long-standing position on political loyalty. In previous remarks, he had criticised politicians he described as โserial betrayers,โ including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal.
Wikeโs comments come amid persistent political tensions in Rivers State and growing national conversations around political alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
