Lokoja, Kogi State โ In a decisive blow against criminal networks operating in the stateโs hinterlands, the Kogi State Police Command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, local hunters and vigilante groups, has arrested eight suspected criminals during intelligence-led, coordinated bush-combing operations across forested and remote locations within the state.
The suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing further interrogation and investigation.
According to a statement by the police, the multi-agency raids were carried out following credible intelligence and surveillance reports that identified several locations being used as hideouts by armed bandits, kidnappers and their informants. During the coordinated operations, criminal enclaves and suspected bandit camps were discovered and neutralised, significantly disrupting their operational capacity.
Police authorities disclosed that aerial surveillance assets were deployed to support ground forces, enabling accurate tracking of movements and enhancing the effectiveness of the raids. Some suspects reportedly fled upon sighting security operatives, abandoning makeshift camps and other items in the bush.
Preliminary investigations indicate that some of those arrested are suspected informants linked to kidnapping syndicates, providing logistics and intelligence support to criminal groups terrorising communities in the state.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Kankarofi, assured residents that the security situation is under control and reaffirmed the commandโs commitment to protecting lives and property. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activities through official security channels.
The arrests form part of a sustained security crackdown on banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes in Kogi State, with joint task forces intensifying operations to dismantle criminal networks and eliminate illegal camps.
The police command reiterated that security is a collective responsibility, appealing to residents to continue providing credible intelligence to support ongoing operations aimed at restoring lasting peace across the state.
