A 36-year-old Nigerian woman, Gbemisola Akayinode, has been arrested in Houston, Texas, and charged with felony murder and child endangerment following the tragic death of her 9-year-old daughter, Oluwasikemi, who was left unattended in a hot car for several hours.

What We Know:

  • The incident occurred on October 16, 2025. Authorities say Akayinode left the child inside a locked vehicle as temperatures soared beyond 37°C (98°F).
  • The child reportedly suffered from hyperthermia and was found unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
  • Investigators allege the mother was aware the child was in the car but failed to act in time.
