Truck Crushes Five People to Death in Ogun
Reported by David Joshua | Sele Media Africa
A tragic road accident has claimed the lives of five individuals at the Alapoka axis of the Papalanto–Ilaro Road, in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State. The victims were reportedly crushed by a Dangote Cement truck, according to local sources and media reports.
The incident occurred when the heavy truck, loaded with cement, lost control and veered off the road, colliding with pedestrians and motorists in its path. Local residents rushed to the scene but could not save the victims, who died instantaneously from the impact.
A mob, enraged by the disaster, reportedly set the crashed vehicle ablaze before law enforcement officers arrived to restore order. Eyewitnesses say the driver attempted to flee but was restrained by security agents and handed over to the state police command.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) confirmed the crash and said the bodies of the deceased were deposited in a morgue in Ilaro for autopsy and identification.
This incident is not the first of its kind in the area. Similar fatal crashes involving cement trucks have been recorded previously on Ilaro roads, prompting concerns over reckless driving, poor road safety enforcement, and vehicle maintenance. [1]
As investigations continue, community members are demanding stricter regulations, enforcement of traffic laws, and accountability from transport companies to prevent future tragedies.
