In a historic student election marked by high energy, passion, and a spirit of democratic participation, Africa International University (AIU) in Nairobi has elected Reinhard Graham Odenge as its new Student Council President and Sharon Emma Chepkemoi as Vice President.
The election, held on campus with votes cast by the entire student body, saw three presidential teams vie for leadership:
• Reinhard Odenge (P) & Sharon E. Chepkemoi (VP)
• Alexis Museveni (P) & Mirriam Kanana (VP)
• Joseph Lemayian (P) & Vivian Nduta (VP)
After a spirited campaign period that emphasized inclusion, service, and student-centered leadership, Reinhard and Sharon emerged victorious, winning the confidence and mandate of AIU’s diverse student body.
The Victory Speech: Unity and Purpose
In an exclusive interview with Sele Media Africa shortly after the announcement, Reinhard Odenge delivered a heartfelt message to the AIU community.
“I, Reinhard Graham Odenge, together with Sharon Emma Chepkemoi, humbly and gratefully accept the trust and mandate that the students of African International University have bestowed upon us as your new President and Deputy President.”
His statement resonated deeply with students across campus, emphasizing a vision of servant leadership, unity, and student empowerment.
“This victory is not just ours — it belongs to every student who believed that unity, service, and faith can transform our university into a stronger, more inclusive community,” he declared.
“Leadership is not about position, but about people. Our mission is clear: to listen, to serve, and to build an AIU where every student feels seen, valued, and empowered.”
His deputy, Sharon Emma Chepkemoi, echoed his sentiments, stating that their administration will focus on collaborative leadership, accessibility, and amplifying student voices, especially those from underrepresented groups.
The Election Process
The presidential race was open to the entire student body, with each student eligible to vote. According to reports confirmed by AIU’s Student Affairs Office and Sele Media Africa’s Fact-Checking Team, the process was free, fair, and transparent. Voter turnout was reported to be among the highest in recent years, reflecting growing political awareness and student engagement on campus.
Celebrating a Mandate of Faith and Service
Odenge, known for his quiet resolve and strong communication skills, has long advocated for student representation, transparency in student governance, and improved welfare policies. His VP, Chepkemoi, brings a background of advocacy, mentorship, and academic excellence, making them a power duo many students are hopeful about.
“We are honored to be featured by Sele Media Africa,” Reinhard said. “We see this as more than recognition — it is a reminder that stories of hope, faith, and servant leadership can inspire beyond our university walls.”
A Message to Their Supporters
In his concluding remarks, Reinhard offered words of appreciation to their campaign supporters:
“To every student who believed in change — thank you. The journey ahead is ours to walk together. Yes, we can.”
Chepkemoi added:
“Let this win be a symbol that every student matters. Let’s work together to build a campus we can all be proud of.”
Looking Forward
As the new leadership team prepares to assume office, expectations are high. Students are looking forward to seeing improvements in academic affairs, campus life, mental health support, and opportunities for international engagement. Reinhard and Sharon have promised regular open forums and inclusive decision-making as their leadership hallmark.
