Reported by David Joshua | Sele Media Africa
The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed strong support for groundbreaking scientific research aimed at discovering a potential plant-based cure for brain cancer.
The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, made this known while addressing stakeholders in Abuja. He directed relevant health research institutions and universities to collaborate closely with the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT) in exploring traditional and herbal medicine with proven scientific value.
According to the minister, the country must invest in innovative, indigenous solutions to tackle the rising burden of cancer and other critical illnesses. “We believe Nigeria’s rich biodiversity holds untapped potential for cancer treatment,” Salako said. “We are focusing on plant-based compounds that could form the basis for new therapies, especially in managing brain cancer.”
