NDLEA Intercepts Drugs Hidden in Frozen Snails, Electrical Bulbs!
Reported by Marian Opeyemi Fasesan | Sele Media Africa
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered attempts to export illicit drugs cleverly concealed in frozen snails, electrical bulbs, and female clothing.
What We Know:
- The interceptions were made at major courier firms in Lagos, targeting outbound parcels headed to the U.S., U.K., and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
- NDLEA agents discovered the drugs — including methamphetamine and cannabis — stuffed into hollowed bulbs, wrapped in clothing, and inserted into frozen snails.
- Several suspects linked to the consignments have been identified, and investigations are ongoing.
Quote:
“These traffickers will go to absurd lengths to beat our checks, but our intelligence and vigilance continue to pay off,” — NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi.
Why It Matters:
- This reflects the growing sophistication of drug trafficking networks and their use of unconventional concealment methods.
- The NDLEA’s continued success in busting such operations strengthens Nigeria’s credibility in international anti-drug enforcement.
- The seizures prevent harmful substances from reaching vulnerable communities abroad.
