Kano Court Orders TikTokers to Marry Within 60 Days Over Alleged Indecent Videos!

Reported by Amos Dachung | Sele Media Africa | www.selemedia.org

A Magistrate Court in Kano State has directed two popular TikTok content creators — Idris “Mai Wushirya” (also known as “Mai Wushirya”) and Basira Yar Guda — to marry within 60 days. The order follows the circulation of viral videos deemed “indecent” and contrary to the moral and religious values upheld in Kano State. [1]

Presided over by Magistrate Halima Wali of Court No. 7, the order also mandates the Kano State Hisbah Board to facilitate the marriage process, and the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board to monitor its implementation. The court warned that failure to comply within the 60‑day timeframe will be treated as contempt. [2]

The case stems from earlier proceedings in which Mai Wushirya was remanded in a correctional facility after videos surfaced showing him and Basira engaging in romantic gestures. The Censorship Board asserted the clips violated state laws prohibiting production or distribution of sexually suggestive or obscene content. [3]
This ruling marks a notable development in Kano’s increasing regulation of digital content creators, reflecting ongoing efforts by state bodies to enforce moral codes in the social media space.
