FRSC Introduces Contactless Driver’s Licence System, Promises Seamless Process
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has unveiled a contactless biometric driver’s licence processing system aimed at revolutionizing how Nigerians apply for, obtain, and renew their licences. [1]
Speaking during the corps’ “Ember Months” public safety campaign in Abuja, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed revealed that the new system will eliminate traditional fingerprint scanners and paper‑based temporary licences. With the upgrade, applicants can expect near‑instant issuance of permanent licences upon biometric capture. [1]
The FRSC confirmed that its upgraded licence printing facilities are now operating at increased capacity and that nationwide rollout will be completed ahead of November 2025. [1]
Key benefits highlighted by the corps include:
• Reduced waiting time: Applicants no longer need to wait weeks or months for permanent licences. [1]
• Improved data integrity: A fully digitalised system linked to the national database will curb fraud and duplication.
• Enhanced user experience: Applicants can move through a one‑stop biometric registration process, bypassing multiple visits and paperwork. [1]
As part of Nigeria’s broader efforts to modernise public service delivery and build public trust, the FRSC says this digital upgrade underscores its commitment to transparency, efficiency, and safety on the roads.
