A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, has remanded Bishop
Onyeagoziri Ndubueze (also referred to as Bishop Sam Onyeagoziri) in the Abakaliki Correctional Centre following allegations of sexual abuse involving a 22‑year‑old female church member. [1]
The accused, general overseer of Champions The Truth Cathedral, was arraigned on multiple counts including threats to life, falsehood, fraudulent act, and circulation of pornographic photos of the alleged victim — offences purportedly committed under Section 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 33, Vol.1 of the Laws of Ebonyi State, as well as Section 20(1) of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law 2024. [1]
During the hearing on October 21, 2025, Chief Magistrate Mrs. Nike Chima refused the bail application filed by the defense counsel, citing lack of jurisdiction for the court to grant bail in the case. [1]
The matter has been adjourned until November 4 for further hearing and the court has referred the file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice. [1]
In a separate revelation, the accused was earlier arrested by the state police command following allegations that he engaged in a sexual relationship with a sickle cell patient under the guise of healing her genotype condition allegations he denies, claiming the media circulated manipulated images using artificial intelligence. [2]
The case has sparked widespread public concern regarding clerical accountability and the exploitation of faith by religious leaders. Authorities say investigation is ongoing.
