In a bid to streamline land ownership and promote investment, the government of Kwara State has rolled out a fully‑digitised land administration platform, with the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KWGIS) announcing the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy (CofOs) in just 30 days under the automated system. [1]

At a quarterly press briefing, KWGIS revealed that updates include end‑to‑end digitisation of land title processing, fewer bureaucratic bottlenecks, and enhanced verification using electronic systems. According to the report, 247 CofOs were processed in the first quarter under the new system alone. [2]

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has emphasised that the reform is central to Kwara’s broader agenda of boosting internally generated revenue, attracting investment, and simplifying property ownership for residents and businesses alike. [3]

Under the new framework:

  • Prospective landowners submit applications online or at zonal offices, eliminating the need for repeated visits
  • The agency aims to complete processing and issue CofOs within 30 working days. [1]
  • The system is expected to reduce fraudulent land titles, speed up transfers, and expand access through zonal branches.

Government officials project the reform will make Kwara a more attractive destination for real estate investment, facilitate access to finance using land as collateral, and strengthen land‑use transparency.

Residents and investors are advised to engage with the official KWGIS portal or visit their nearest zonal office to take advantage of the upgraded service.
