In a significant move to bolster religious institutions, the Sokoto State Government has announced the introduction of monthly allowances for Imams, their deputies, and Mu’azzins across the state. Additionally, Jumu’at Mosques will receive monthly cash allocations ranging from ₦300,000 to ₦500,000, depending on their category. [1]

Governor Ahmed Aliyu made this announcement during the graduation ceremony of 111 Qur’an memorizers from the Sokoto branch of the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation. He emphasized that this initiative is part of his administration’s efforts to strengthen Islamic propagation and promote Qur’anic memorization among children. [2]

“We have also introduced monthly cash allocations to all our Jumu’at Mosques, ranging from ₦300,000 to ₦500,000 depending on their category. In addition, monthly allowances have been introduced for Imams, their deputies, and Mu’azzins across the state to support them in the discharge of their duties,” Governor Aliyu stated.

The governor highlighted that Islamic affairs remain a key priority of his administration’s “Nine-point Smart Agenda,” ranking second only to security. He also directed the school management to identify land for the establishment of a permanent site, assuring that the state government would provide the necessary support. [3]

The event was attended by notable figures, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, who commended Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi for establishing the foundation and praised scholars for promoting Islamic ideals and peaceful coexistence. Former governor Aliyu Wamakko and Senator Abdulaziz Yari also pledged continued support, with Yari donating ₦22 million and food items to the school. [4]

This development underscores the Sokoto State Government’s commitment to supporting religious leaders and institutions, aiming to foster a generation that upholds Islamic teachings in line with the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
