Reported by David Joshua | Sele Media Africa
Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold is returning to his musical roots with his sixth studio album, “Fuji,” set for release on October 3, 2025. He describes the project as a heartfelt tribute to the ancestral sounds and cultural echoes of Nigeria. [1]
What He’s Saying
- Gold posted on Instagram that “Fuji was the genre that raised me… music that carries where I come from, who I have become, and where I’m heading.” [2]
- He revealed that the album is five years in the making and called it his “greatest work yet.” [3]
- In a conversation with Fuji legend Adewale Ayuba, Gold said growing up, Ayuba’s music was part of the ambient soundscape of life in Nigeria—and now collaborating or dialoguing with him feels like a full-circle moment.
The Music & Sound
- His lead single “Bobo”, featuring Lojay and Shoday, blends traditional Yoruba percussion and talking drums with modern production. [5]
- The album is being positioned as a bridge between indigenous Fuji timbres and contemporary Afropop sensibilities. [6]
- According to The Peninsula (AFP), Gold said, “That sound is the soundtrack of Lagos … that sound gave birth to Afrobeats …” [6]
