Founder and convener of the Akada Children’s Book Festival Mrs. Olubunmi Aboderin Talabi, has reaffirmed her vision to cultivate a generation of young African readers and storytellers, saying the festival is designed to inspire creativity, literacy, and cultural pride among children.

Speaking at the recently concluded edition of the festival, Mrs.Talabi emphasized the importance of African children seeing themselves reflected in the stories they read, and being empowered to write their own narratives.

“We are building a space where children can fall in love with books, where they are free to imagine and create. Our stories matter, and our children must be equipped to tell them with confidence,” she said.

The Akada Book Festival — widely recognized as Nigeria’s first and largest book festival dedicated to children— featured author readings, writing workshops, book signings, and interactive sessions aimed at making reading fun and accessible.

With growing participation each year, the event continues to attract educators, publishers, and families seeking to nurture literacy and creativity from an early age.
