The Zamfara State Government has confirmed that 10 persons died following the collapse of a mining pit in Maru Local Government Area.

The incident occurred earlier this week in the Dukku area, which is known for illegal mining activities. Initial reports suggested a higher death toll, but the government clarified on Sunday that rescue efforts led to the recovery of 10 bodies, with several others sustaining injuries.

Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Nura Isah Gusau, stated that investigations are ongoing, and the state is considering tighter regulations to prevent future tragedies.

He warned against illegal mining operations and urged community members to prioritize safety and report hazardous activities.
