Wives and Daughters of JIBWIS Cleric Targeted in Alarming Bandit Raid”!
Reported by Mustapha Labake Omowumi (Journalist) | Sele Media Africa
In a harrowing escalation of insecurity in northern Nigeria, armed bandits have kidnapped multiple women and children including the wives and daughters of a prominent Jama’atu Izalatil Bid‘ah wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) cleric during a pre-dawn raid in Bauchi State.
Eyewitnesses report that gunmen stormed several communities overnight, forcibly abducting relatives of the Chief Imam of a local JIBWIS council alongside other residents. Many of the victims were reportedly at home when the attackers struck, and were taken into nearby bushland as security personnel rushed to respond. Early reports indicate that small children and adult women were among those abducted, heightening concerns for their safety.
Security sources have confirmed the incident but provided limited details, highlighting the ongoing challenges in securing rural communities in northern Nigeria. Bandit groups often operate with near impunity, frequently targeting isolated villages and homes, overwhelming under-resourced local security deployments.
The Bauchi State Police Command has yet to release an official statement or casualty figures. Meanwhile, community leaders and local authorities are reportedly appealing for calm as negotiations or rescue operations remain unverified.
This incident occurs against the backdrop of a broader surge in kidnappings across northern Nigeria, where banditry has evolved into a sophisticated criminal enterprise. High-profile abductions in Kaduna and other states including mass kidnappings of schoolchildren and worshippers have intensified public pressure on security agencies and sparked urgent calls for stronger community protection measures.
As families await news of the captives, residents in Bauchi and surrounding states are once again confronting the stark reality of persistent bandit violence, which continues to undermine public confidence and strain local resources.
