Wissa Urges Brentford to Honor Transfer Agreement Amid Newcastle Interest

Brentford striker Yoane Wissa has publicly called on the club to honor what he claims was a prior agreement to allow his departure, as Newcastle United intensify efforts to secure his signature before the transfer window closes.

The 28-year-old Congolese forward expressed frustration over Brentford’s rejection of Newcastle’s latest offer, reportedly valued at £35 million plus £5 million in add-ons. Wissa asserts that he was previously assured—both verbally and in writing—that he could leave if a reasonable bid was received. However, Brentford have now set a new asking price of £60 million, a figure Newcastle are reluctant to meet.

“I remain hopeful that a fair and reasonable resolution can still be found before the transfer window shuts. In the meantime, I must do what I feel is right for my career and family and insist that Brentford honour their word to let me join a new club at a fair price.”

Wissa has taken steps to distance himself from Brentford, including removing all club-related content from his social media accounts and reportedly refusing to train with the first team. He has been left out of recent matchday squads, with Brentford head coach Keith Andrews citing the player’s mental state as a factor.

Newcastle United view Wish as a potential replacement for Alexander Isak, who is pushing for a move to Liverpool. The Magpies have already signed Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart but are seeking additional attacking options.

Brentford’s reluctance to sell Wissa stems from a challenging summer, having already lost key figures such as Bryan Mbeumo, Christian Norgaard, and former head coach Thomas Frank. The club is reportedly close to signing Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth for £42.5 million, which could potentially pave the way for Wissa’s departure.
