Wike‑backed PDP Faction Dissolves 14 State Excos, Fixes CongressesBy Enock Damidami | Sele Media Africa
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dissolved state executive committees in multiple states and directed that fresh congresses be conducted across affected regions. The move comes amid an ongoing crisis within the party that has seen competing leadership claims and disciplinary actions against key members. [1]The faction’s National Executive Committee (NEC) announced the dissolution of executives in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, Edo, and Ekiti States, stating that the action was necessary due to alleged anti‑party activities, disobedience to court orders, and conduct bringing the party into disrepute. The NEC also ratified the expulsion of Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi) and Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), along with other senior party figures, for alleged anti‑party conduct. [1]According to the communiqué read at the meeting, the NEC has directed the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) to constitute caretaker committees in the affected states and immediately begin the organization of fresh congresses to elect new executives. The faction insists the decisions are aimed at reinforcing discipline and stabilizing the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. [1]Party leadership loyal to Wike stated that the actions were taken following breaches of party rules and efforts to ensure compliance with the PDP constitution, stressing that restructuring at the state level is intended to restore order and unity.
