Wike Approves Demands of Striking FCT Resident Doctors
Abuja — The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has officially approved the demands of the resident doctors in the Federal Capital Territory, who had gone on strike since September 15, 2025, demanding unpaid entitlements. ([Vanguard](https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/09/wike-approves-demands-of-striking-fct-resident-doctors/)) The strike action was launched over several unresolved issues, including salary arrears spanning one to six months for some doctors employed since 2023, unpaid 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund, and adjustments from the 25/35% upward review of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS). Additional demands were for the immediate recruitment of new medical staff, correction of irregular salary payments, stoppage of erroneous deductions, payment of hazard allowances for 13 months, and timely conversion/promotion processes. Wike made the announcement during the flag‑off of the Northern Parkway road project (Ring Road II to Ring Road III, Abuja), stating that he had signed off on all the doctors’ requests. He commended the doctors for suspending the strike in consideration of patients and the wider FCT community. He directed the Acting Head of Service and his Senior Special Assistant, Samuel Atang, to ensure immediate implementation of the approved entitlements.
