Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has urged citizens to exercise their democratic rights by voting out any elected leader who fails to deliver on their promises or perform effectively in office.
Speaking at a recent public engagement, Jonathan emphasized the importance of accountability and active participation in the electoral process to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy. He noted that leadership is a responsibility that requires commitment to the welfare of the people and that citizens must not hesitate to remove ineffective leaders through the ballot box.
“We must use our votes wisely. If a leader does not meet the expectations of the people, then it is the right of the electorate to vote such leaders out. Democracy works best when the people hold their leaders accountable,” Jonathan said.
His remarks come at a time when Nigerians are increasingly concerned about governance, corruption, and developmental challenges across the country.
Jonathan’s call reinforces the democratic principle that power ultimately rests with the people, urging voters to be vigilant and proactive in shaping the nation’s future.
