
Tragedy in the U.S.: Ukrainian Refugee Fatally Stabbed on Train in Charlotte, North Carolina

A horrifying incident has left the Charlotte community and global observers in shock. Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee who fled the war-torn city of Mariupol in 2022, was fatally stabbed while riding a light rail train in Charlotte, North Carolina.
According to surveillance footage obtained by authorities, Iryna was quietly scrolling on her phone when she was suddenly attacked without warning. The suspect, 34-year-old Decarlos Brown, reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed her multiple times before attempting to flee the scene.
Brown, identified as a homeless man with a lengthy criminal record and history of mental illness, has been charged with first-degree murder.
Iryna, described by friends as a gentle soul, talented artist, and aspiring veterinary assistant, worked at a local pizzeria and was widely loved for her warmth and compassion.
Her tragic death has sparked nationwide outrage and renewed debates on mental health, public safety, and the effectiveness of the justice system in protecting vulnerable lives.
