Reported by David Joshua | Sele Media Africa
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has formally apologized to the Dangote Group following misattribution of a truck in a fatal road crash along the Alapoka axis of the Papalanto–Ilaro Road. The accident, which occurred Friday night, claimed multiple lives and prompted widespread outrage.
In a statement, TRACE acknowledged earlier errors in identifying the vehicle involved. The agency clarified that further investigation revealed the truck in question does not belong to Dangote, and extended an unreserved apology to the company for the distress caused by the initial reports.
Earlier media accounts had reported that a Dangote Cement truck crushed five people who were traveling in a tricycle, citing brake failure and a collision. TRACE’s spokesman, Babatunde Akinbiyi, had initially given the truck’s registration as GRZ 767 XA and implicated the company in the tragedy. [1]
Following the apology, TRACE emphasized its commitment to accuracy in public communication and pledged to revisit its internal protocols on incident verification and media reporting.
