The Presidency has firmly rejected suggestions by ex-Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, that President Bola Tinubu might seek to extend his tenure beyond the constitutionally permitted limits.
In a statement issued Sunday night, a presidential spokesperson described El-Rufai’s comments as “unfounded and unnecessary,” affirming Tinubu’s full commitment to constitutional democracy and term limits.
“President Tinubu has no intention whatsoever to stay in power beyond what the Constitution allows. Any suggestion otherwise is baseless and mischievous,” the statement said.
This response comes after a video surfaced in which El-Rufai reportedly warned against African leaders who seek to remain in power indefinitely, subtly referencing current Nigerian politics.
The controversy has sparked debate on social media, with Nigerians divided over the intentions behind El-Rufai’s remarks and the timing of his criticism.
