Kano State — In a bid to reduce teacher‑pupil ratios and improve the quality of basic education, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has confirmed the absorption of 4,315 former BESDA (Better Education Service Delivery for All) volunteer teachers into the state civil service as permanent and pensionable staff. [1]During the presentation of appointment letters, the governor also announced plans to recruit an additional 2,616 qualified teachers through SUBEB (State Universal Basic Education Board) in the coming weeks to further relieve staffing pressures in public primary schools across Kano. [1]Governor Yusuf highlighted that this move is part of his administration’s broader education emergency programmes, geared toward ensuring that every school is functional, that learning environments are conducive, and that teachers are well supported. He urged the newly appointed teachers to teach with passion, serve with integrity, and help shape the character of students. [2]He added that improvements are also being made in school infrastructure, learning materials distribution across all 44 local government areas, and enhancements in teacher welfare to support this new intake.
