Suspected Armed Robbers Attack Petrol Dealer in Minna, Flee with ₦8 Million
In a brazen daylight robbery, suspected armed assailants targeted a petrol dealer in Minna, Niger State, making away with approximately ₦8 million. The incident occurred on Monday, September 8, 2025, around 11:00 AM, near the dealer’s office located along Bosso Road.
According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants, numbering four, arrived in a black Toyota Corolla without license plates. They intercepted the dealer’s vehicle as he was returning from a commercial bank, having withdrawn cash intended for fuel purchases. The robbers, armed with AK-47 rifles, forcibly removed the cash-filled bag from the vehicle before fleeing the scene.
A security guard, who requested anonymity, recounted, “They blocked the car, smashed the windows, and pointed guns at everyone. It happened so fast; they were gone before anyone could react.”
The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the incident. In a press statement, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Wasiu Abiodun stated, “We received a distress call regarding an armed robbery along Bosso Road. Our officers responded promptly, but the suspects had already fled. We are currently investigating and urge anyone with information to come forward.”
This incident adds to a series of similar robberies in the region. In 2019, a chief accountant and cashier were detained following the theft of ₦11.4 million in Minna, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the area [1] .
Community leaders have expressed concern over the increasing frequency of such attacks. Alhaji Musa Abdullahi, Chairman of the Minna Traders Association, commented, “Our members are living in fear. We call on the authorities to enhance security measures and protect businesses from these criminal elements.”
As investigations continue, the police have assured the public of their commitment to apprehending the perpetrators and restoring safety to the community.
