Troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Sector 3 under Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested a suspected arms dealer and recovered an AK-47 rifle with ammunition during a targeted raid in Taraba State.
The operation, which took place in Chanchanji village, Takum LGA, was based on credible intelligence about illicit arms movement in the area. According to the military, the suspect was apprehended while attempting to sell the weapon to criminal elements.
“Our troops acted swiftly to intercept the suspect. This is part of our ongoing efforts to disrupt the supply of weapons fueling insecurity in the region,” the Nigerian Army said in a statement.
Key Details:
- The suspect was found with one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and several rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
- Preliminary investigations suggest he may be part of a broader network supplying weapons to bandits and insurgents operating in Benue, Taraba, and Nasarawa axis.
- He is currently in military custody and will be handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
