Senator Katung Decries Renewed Violence in Southern Kaduna, Urges Immediate Security Intervention

Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has expressed deep concern over the resurgence of violent attacks in Southern Kaduna, describing the situation as a humanitarian crisis that demands urgent attention.

In a heartfelt statement, Senator Katung lamented the recent spate of killings, kidnappings, and abductions perpetrated by armed groups across several communities, including Kauru, Kachia, Zangon Kataf, Kaura, and Sanga Local Government Areas. He highlighted a particularly grievous incident where 22 individuals, predominantly women and children, were abducted in separate attacks on the Kugauta and Kitanda communities within Kauru LGA [1] .

“This heinous criminality against our innocent people has brought immense pain, untold hardship, and shaken the well-being of our communities,” Senator Katung stated. He emphasized that such atrocities must not continue unchecked and called for immediate action to halt the violence [2] .
Addressing congregants at the Fountain of Life Baptist Church in Kafanchan, the senator made an emotional appeal for peace and security, declaring, “My life does not matter to me now if my people are not secured.” He assured constituents that efforts are underway in collaboration with security agencies and the government to end the banditry plaguing Southern Kaduna [3] .

Senator Katung also warned youths against engaging in criminal activities, stating that those involved would face the full weight of the law. He urged the community to offer prayers and support, stressing that no leader can succeed without the backing of the citizens [4] .

The senator’s remarks underscore the escalating security challenges in Southern Kaduna and the urgent need for comprehensive measures to protect lives and restore peace in the region.
