In a recent oversight visit to the headquarters of the EFCC in Abuja, the Senate Committee on Anti‑Corruption and Financial Crimes applauded the agency’s performance over the past year, commending its recoveries, convictions and renewed public engagement. [1]
Senator Emmanuel Udende, chairman of the committee, emphasised that increased budgetary support and stronger institutional backing are needed to sustain the EFCC’s gains and scale up operations in emerging crime areas such as cryptocurrency fraud and illicit financial flows. [2]
Specifically, the Senate pledged:
- To expand the EFCC’s budget allocation, with proposals to triple funding under the 2025 cycle. [3]
- To strengthen legislative oversight, holding regular reviews of the Commission’s performance, budget execution and outcome of major anti‑graft cases.
- To support institutional reforms, including provision of technology, training and legal frameworks to make the EFCC more effective and autonomous.
- EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede welcomed the Senate’s commitment and called on all Nigerians to collaborate with the agency to deepen transparency and accountability in public service. [4]
This renewed partnership between the Senate and the EFCC signals a bolstered push in Nigeria’s anti‑corruption war, with lawmakers and the agency aligning to close gaps in funding, oversight and institutional capacity.
