🎥 The Core of the Collaboration
The partnership is centered on a mutual exchange of expertise and resources designed to benefit both the media organization and the next generation of creative professionals:
* Talent Pipeline: The most immediate outcome is the establishment of a formal Industrial Attachment (I.A.) and Internship Program. This will see JOFTA’s brightest students—specializing in Cinematography, Sound Engineering, Graphics, and Editing—gaining hands-on experience within the demanding environment of Sele News production facilities. This addresses the media team’s need for technically proficient staff ready for the fast-paced news cycle.
* Capacity Building: Sele News Media will facilitate Masterclasses led by their senior journalists, reporters, and producers for JOFTA students. These sessions will focus on the principles of ethical journalism, newsgathering in a digital age, and the technical demands of live broadcast and investigative documentary filmmaking.
* Equipment and Technology Exchange: Discussions included plans for joint utilization of high-end equipment. JOFTA will gain access to cutting-edge broadcast news technology, while Sele News Media will be able to leverage the academy’s specialized studio facilities for large-scale documentary or feature production.
* Joint Content Creation: The two institutions plan to co-produce a series of in-depth socio-economic documentaries focusing on regional development, culture, and governance. This offers JOFTA students real-world production credits and provides Sele News Media with unique, high-quality, and richly visual content.
🎙️ Voices from the Summit
The Chief of Staff of the Sele News Media Team, speaking after the meeting, emphasized the shift in media consumption.
“The news landscape is no longer about text alone; it’s about immersive, high-definition visual storytelling,” said the representative. “Partnering with the Jos Film and Technical Academy, a renowned hub of technical and creative talent, is not just an opportunity—it’s a necessity. We are investing in the future of Nigerian news production, ensuring our content is both journalistically sound and technically superior.”
The Director of JOFTA highlighted the value of practical exposure for their students.
“Our students are trained to be the best in their crafts, from lighting to post-production,” the Director stated. “This partnership guarantees them an invaluable proving ground. Being part of the Sele News team, even for a brief period, means learning to deliver technical perfection under real-world pressure. It is the vital link between the classroom and the control room.”
📈 Looking Ahead
The collaboration is expected to launch its first intake of interns by the end of the first quarter of next year, with the first joint documentary projects slated to begin production shortly thereafter.
This strategic alignment between a major media house and a technical institution in Jos is seen by industry observers as a blueprint for the future, fostering a vital synergy between journalistic integrity and the technical brilliance required to captivate modern audiences.
