JOS, PLATEAU STATE — Sele Media Africa has taken a decisive step toward strengthening media–film collaboration in Plateau State following a strategic visit by a three-member delegation to the Jos Film and Technical Academy (JOFTA).
The visit was led by Miss Suzan S. Daniel (Chief of Staff), accompanied by Mr. Joshua Ishaya (Managing Editor) and Mrs. Mbiya Willis (Voiceover Artist)—all acting on behalf of the CEO, Amb. John Sele Philip.
This engagement came as a direct follow-up to an official letter addressed to the Rector of JOFTA, Mr. Samuel Davou Rapson, where the CEO expressed deep admiration for the academy’s work and outlined a bold roadmap for institutional collaboration.
A Letter That Opened the Door
At the meeting, the Chief of Staff formally read excerpts from the CEO’s letter, which set the tone for the strategic dialogue. In the letter, the CEO described Sele Media Africa as:
“A bold and independent web-based Pan-African News and Media Platform… publishing over 600 news headlines monthly, powered by a team of 15 staff, with 3 million Facebook, 1 million TikTok, and 50,000 Instagram monthly impressions.”
The letter highlighted the anticipated benefits of a Sele Media–JOFTA alliance, including internship opportunities, documentary partnerships, media visibility, and capacity-building programs.
One of the most striking excerpts read aloud stated:
“We believe a relationship between JoFTa and Sele Media Africa will be mutually enriching… strengthening a creative ecosystem capable of shaping public awareness, historical memory, and global advocacy.”
The Rector expressed appreciation for the CEO’s thoughtful outreach, noting that the letter’s vision aligned with JOFTA’s mission of shaping highly skilled, industry-ready technical professionals.
Inside the Strategic Meeting
The closed-door meeting focused on creating a formal cooperation framework centered on four key areas:
- Talent Pipeline & Student Internships
JOFTA students specializing in cinematography, sound engineering, editing, and graphics will soon have the opportunity to undertake internships within Sele Media Africa’s newsroom and production studios. The Rector described this as a “pivotal bridge between training and industry practice.”
- Professional Masterclasses
Sele Media Africa’s senior journalists and producers will host specialized workshops on:
Ethical journalism
Digital newsgathering
Live broadcast production
Documentary investigations
This responds to the growing need for hands-on professional exposure.
- Technology & Equipment Exchange
The two institutions discussed sharing technical resources. Sele Media Africa will grant JOFTA students exposure to modern broadcast technology, while JOFTA will open its advanced studio spaces for Sele Media Africa’s large-scale documentary work.
- Joint Documentary Production
Both institutions agreed on co-producing documentaries on:
Regional development
Culture and heritage
Governance issues
Human rights and communal crises
These joint productions will give JOFTA students real-world credits and strengthen Sele Media’s growing documentary portfolio.
Voices from the Engagement
Speaking after the meeting, Chief of Staff Miss Suzan S. Daniel reaffirmed the CEO’s vision:
“Ambassador Sele Philip believes in raising the next generation of African media professionals. This partnership with JOFTA is strategic, timely, and necessary for advancing high-quality visual storytelling across Nigeria.”
Rector Mr. Samuel Rapson welcomed the collaboration, describing it as a “historic alignment of vision”:
“Our academy is committed to excellence. Working with Sele Media Africa will give our students the critical exposure they need to master their craft under real professional pressure.”
A Partnership on the Horizon
The first batch of interns from JOFTA is expected to join Sele Media Africa by the end of the first quarter next year, while the first co-produced documentaries are projected to begin production soon after.
Industry observers have already described this emerging alliance as a model for media–technical education collaboration in Nigeria, merging journalistic integrity with technical brilliance to serve a digital-first generation.
