Lagos, Nigeria – Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has marked the second anniversary of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line with a message of gratitude, reflection, and renewed commitment to a more mobile and efficient Lagos. In a statement posted on his official Facebook page today, the governor highlighted key milestones of the transformative rail project and announced a 50% fare reduction on Thursday, September 4, 2025, in celebration of its progress.

Two years ago, we took a bold step with the launch of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line. Today, as I look back on how far we have come, I feel a deep sense of pride and gratitude,” Sanwo-Olu wrote.

According to the governor, the Blue Line has transported over five million passengers safely, without recording a single accident. He also noted improvements in efficiency, stating that trains now run every 10 minutes and complete over 90 trips daily.

Journeys that once took much longer have become faster and easier. These achievements show that when we work with dedication and purpose, we can build systems that truly serve the people,” he added.

To commemorate the milestone, Sanwo-Olu announced a one-day 50% fare discount for all passengers on the Blue Line. “If you have not yet experienced the Blue Line, I encourage you to take a ride and see what we have built together,” he urged Lagosians.

The governor reiterated his administration’s long-term goal to ease transportation across the state, promising continued investments in public infrastructure and safety.

Our journey is far from over. Step by step, we are creating the Lagos we all desire — building a city where moving around is easier, safer, and faster,” he concluded.

The LRMT Blue Line, which runs from Marina to Mile 2, is the first phase of a broader rail project designed to address Lagos’s chronic traffic congestion and support sustainable urban mobility. It remains one of the flagship projects under the Lagos State Strategic Transport Master Plan.
