Russia Strikes Ukrainian Cabinet Building in Kyiv Amid Largest Air Assault of the War
In an unprecedented escalation of the ongoing conflict, Russia launched its most extensive aerial attack on Ukraine since the war’s inception, targeting over 800 drones and 13 missiles across multiple cities. The assault resulted in significant damage, including a direct hit on Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers building in Kyiv, marking the first time a central government structure has been struck during the conflict.
The overnight offensive led to the deaths of at least three civilians, including a mother and her infant, and injured 18 others. Residential areas in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts suffered extensive damage, with fires and building collapses reported due to falling drone debris. Other cities, including Kremenchuk, Kryvyi Rih, and Odesa, also experienced significant infrastructure damage. [1][2]
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko confirmed the damage to the Cabinet of Ministers building, emphasizing the symbolic and strategic implications of the attack. President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the strikes as deliberate acts of terror and called for increased international sanctions against Russia. [3]
The Ukrainian Air Force reported intercepting 747 drones and four missiles during the assault. Despite these efforts, the scale and coordination of the attack highlight the challenges Ukraine faces in defending its airspace. [2]
This latest offensive underscores the intensifying nature of the conflict and the urgent need for enhanced international support to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
