PSC Continues Promotion Exams for Senior Officers, Warns Against Bribery
Reported by David Joshua
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has continued its ongoing compulsory promotion examinations for senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force, reaffirming its commitment to merit-based advancement and a transparent promotion process.
The examinations, held in various centres across the country, are part of the Commission’s efforts to restore credibility, professionalism, and public confidence in the police system. The PSC emphasized that no officer will be promoted without passing the required exams, regardless of connections or years of service.
Speaking during an inspection of one of the exam centres on Friday, a PSC official reiterated the Commission’s zero-tolerance policy towards bribery, favoritism, and lobbying, warning that anyone caught engaging in such acts—whether officer or facilitator—would face immediate disciplinary action.
“Promotion in the Nigeria Police Force must be earned, not bought. These exams are to ensure only the most qualified officers move up the ranks, as part of our reform strategy,” the official stated.Officers from the ranks of ASP to CSP were seen diligently taking the written assessments under strict supervision.
The initiative has been widely commended by stakeholders and security experts as a step in the right direction toward rebuilding a more professional, trusted, and competent police force.
