Prioritise Treatment of Accident Victims, Stop Rejection, FRSC Begs Hospitals!

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a passionate appeal to hospitals across the country, urging them to prioritise the treatment of accident victims and stop the disturbing trend of rejecting patients involved in road crashes.

This plea comes amidst growing concerns over the rising number of avoidable deaths caused by delays or outright refusal of emergency medical attention for crash victims.

Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, the Corps Public Education Officer, Jonas Agwu, stressed that medical practitioners and institutions have a moral and professional responsibility to render immediate help to accident victims without unnecessary procedural delays.

“These are human lives at stake. We cannot continue to lose citizens due to bureaucracy, lack of compassion, or unfounded fears of police investigation. Hospitals must remember that saving lives should come first,” Agwu stated.

The FRSC also reminded hospitals of the provisions in the National Health Act, which mandates immediate care for emergency cases, regardless of whether the victim can provide a police report or upfront payment.
The Corps further disclosed plans to strengthen its partnerships with medical associations and government health agencies to ensure compliance with emergency treatment protocols nationwide.

This call is part of the FRSC’s renewed efforts to reduce fatalities on Nigerian roads as the ember months approach, a period historically associated with increased road accidents.
