‘Present Proof of 30,000 Deaths Claim’ – IPOB Tells Senator Uzor Kalu!
Reported by Marian Opeyemi Fasesan | Sele Media Africa
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has challenged former Abia State Governor and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to provide evidence supporting his recent claim that over 30,000 people have died as a result of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s agitation in the South-East.
“Such careless statements are dangerous and false. Let him present verified proof or retract the claim,” IPOB said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
Key Details:
- Kalu, in a recent interview, blamed IPOB and its detained leader Nnamdi Kanu for widespread violence in the region, citing a death toll of 30,000.
- IPOB described the statement as “irresponsible,” accusing Kalu of attempting to curry favour with the Federal Government at the expense of truth.
- The group maintains that its agitation is non-violent and that most violence in the region stems from state-backed actors and criminal elements.
Why It Matters:
- The exchange deepens tensions over narratives surrounding insecurity in the South-East.
- It underscores the ongoing political divide over Kanu’s detention and the IPOB movement.
- The claim, if unsubstantiated, could have implications for public perception and legal proceedings.
What to Watch:
- Whether Senator Kalu will respond with data or further clarification.
- Reactions from civil society and fact-checking groups.
- Impact on calls for political resolution to Kanu’s prolonged detention.
