Popular Nigerian activist and outspoken social commentator, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has found himself at the center of fresh controversy after raising serious allegations against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a viral video posted on his official platforms, VDM boldly called out the EFCC, claiming that operatives of the agency unlawfully seized his phone during an encounter that he described as both humiliating and unjustified.
According to him, no warrant or court order was presented at the time of the seizure, which he says is a clear violation of his rights. He described the experience as another example of how Nigerian authorities abuse power and intimidate young people who speak out against societal ills.
“You people claim to be fighting corruption, but you go around harassing innocent citizens without procedure. How do you take my phone without a court order? What are you looking for? This is not about me anymore — it’s about the system,” VDM stated in the video.
Reactions:
His post has sparked massive reactions online:
• Supporters praised him for being fearless and using his platform to call out oppressive behavior by government institutions.• Critics, however, believe he may be provoking unnecessary tension, and some have urged him to pursue the matter through legal channels instead of social media.
What’s Next?
VDM has vowed not to back down until the EFCC:
• Returns his phone.
• Issues a public explanation or apology.
• Faces legal scrutiny over the alleged misconduct.
He also hinted at legal action, saying he’s consulting his lawyers to challenge what he called a “violation of civil liberties.”
This incident adds to the growing list of controversial moments involving VDM, who is known for his fearless commentary on issues ranging from celebrity culture to corruption, police brutality, and now, institutional abuse.
As Nigerians await the EFCC’s official response, many are watching closely to see if this marks the beginning of a legal battle or another wave of public advocacy from the internet’s most fearless critic.
