Politics Will Not Hinder FCT Development, Says Wike!
Reported by Mustapha Labake Omowumi | Sele Media Africa Journalist
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has stated that political activities in the nation’s capital will not derail or hinder ongoing development projects across Abuja. Wike gave the assurance while inspecting key infrastructure projects, stressing that development efforts will continue uninterrupted despite the political calendar.
During an inspection of the Institutional Research Road, a strategic route linking Nile University and other major hubs, the minister said political events including the forthcoming Area Council elections would not distract his administration from fulfilling its infrastructure commitments to residents.
“Politics is different. You have to serve the people. Politics has its own time, and the work will continue to go on. Politics is not going to affect it,” Wike said, adding that sustained project execution reflects the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The inspection tour also covered several ongoing projects, including major road constructions stretching from Euclid Road through Bright Road to Tungan Madaki, community infrastructure initiatives, and an extension of the Body of Benchers building. Wike noted that many of the projects are nearing completion and are expected to be delivered between May and June 2026, ahead of activities marking the third anniversary of the current administration.
He reiterated that development in the FCT will remain inclusive and comprehensive, with deliberate efforts aimed at improving access and connectivity in previously underserved communities.
Wike’s comments come amid wider discussions on governance and service delivery in the FCT, where infrastructure development, sanitation reforms, and the provision of public amenities remain central to the administration’s agenda.
