Police Summon El-Rufai, ADC Leaders Over Alleged Conspiracy and Incitement

The Kaduna State Police Command has issued a summons to former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and six prominent members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for questioning over allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous hurt. [1]

In a letter dated September 4, 2025, signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Uzainu Abdullahi, the ADC State Chairman was directed to ensure the appearance of El-Rufai and the other party members at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8, 2025. [2]

The individuals listed in the invitation include:

• Bashir Sa’idu
• Jafaru Sani
• Ubaidullah Mohammed (a.k.a. “30”)
• Nasiru Maikano
• Aminu Abita
• Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (a.k.a. “Mikiya”)

The police stated that the invitation aims to enable the suspects to clarify allegations made against them by certain complainants. [1]
This development follows a recent incident where suspected political thugs attacked a coalition meeting of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and ADC in Kaduna, resulting in injuries to several participants. Eyewitnesses reported that police patrol vans were deployed around the ADC office at No. 4 Ali Akilu Road, Kaduna, effectively sealing off the premises ahead of a scheduled visit by the party’s Northwest leadership. [2]

Former Governor El-Rufai has condemned the police action, accusing the Kaduna State Police Command of violating constitutional rights. He described the summons as a “dangerous descent into lawlessness” and questioned the legality of the police’s actions. [3]

The ADC has yet to release an official statement regarding the summons. However, the party’s office remains sealed, and the scheduled commiseration visit has been postponed indefinitely.

The Kaduna State Police Command has not provided further details on the nature of the complaints or the evidence prompting the summons. The situation continues to develop, with political tensions in the state remaining high.
