PHOTOS: NAFDAC Destroys Fake Drugs & Products Worth ₦15 Billion in Oyo

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) carried out a large‑scale destruction exercise in Ibadan, Oyo State, disposing of seized fake, expired, substandard, and falsified drugs and other products valued at ₦15 billion.
The public burning took place at Moniya Dumpsite, Akinyele Local Government Area, and was conducted under tight security with officials from various enforcement agencies in attendance.
NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, represented by the Director of Narcotics and Controlled Substances, Yedunni Adenuga, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to ensuring that medicines and health products circulating in Nigeria are safe, effective, and of high quality.
She noted that the operation targeted products seized from illicit pharmaceutical markets, including the Idumota, Onitsha, Ariara, and Ezeuku open drug markets. She warned that the agency will continue such operations to prevent the reintroduction of harmful products into circulation.NAFDAC emphasized that public collaboration is crucial, urging citizens, health professionals, market associations, and media outlets to support efforts to curb the distribution of counterfeit medicines.
