Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Fires Back, Says Samuel Anyanwu Endorsed Convention He Now Disowns!

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has responded decisively to recent claims by its National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who had filed petitions alleging the forgery of a convention notice purportedly bearing his signature. The party, speaking through its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, asserted that Anyanwu not only attended but personally endorsed the decision at the party’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on July 24, 2025, where the date and timetable for the national elective convention were approved. [1]
At a press briefing at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, Ologunagba presented a certified‑true copy of INEC‑monitored documents showing Anyanwu’s presence and signature, including formal attendance registers where he appeared as number four. According to the PDP, the documents confirm the convention date set for November 15‑16, 2025 in Ibadan. [1]In sharp contrast, Anyanwu on October 15 filed petitions with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the police, insisting the letter sent on August 25 bearing his signature was forged and unauthorised. [2]
The conflicting claims have deepened the party’s internal crisis just weeks before the planned national convention. Legal observers note that any unresolved dispute over the signature’s authenticity and NEC processes could jeopardise the convention’s validity and expose the party to court‑ordered interventions. [3]
The PDP insists the convention will proceed as scheduled, emphasising its commitment to internal democracy and adherence to its constitution. The party has also called on security agencies to investigate the alleged forgery. [1]
