OPINION | Say No to Drugs: A Wake-Up Call to the Youth

In a time when the energy of African youth should be channeled into innovation, creativity, and nation-building, a silent but deadly threat is crippling potential across the continent—crystal meth, commonly known as “Ice.”
This isn’t just another drug; Ice is a life-wrecker.
It doesn’t just harm your body—it destroys your mind, drains your strength, and leaves behind broken dreams, broken homes, and broken futures. Watching a recent video of its devastating impact was a sobering reminder of how far-reaching this crisis has become.
In parts of Nigeria—particularly in mining communities—young men who work tirelessly in tin mining or other hustles fall prey to this trap. After long hours underground, their earnings vanish into powdered poison that offers only fleeting highs and lasting damage.
Why are we doing this to ourselves?
Why are we allowing drugs to steal Africa’s future?
As a media organization, Sele Media Africa stands for truth, transformation, and the restoration of dignity among African youth. We join every voice calling for a generation free from drug addiction—a generation that builds, creates, and leads. If you’re struggling with addiction, know this: you are not alone. There is help, and there is hope. It’s never too late to rewrite your story.
To the youth of Nigeria and beyond: choose life over destruction, purpose over addiction, and vision over escape. Say no to drugs. Say yes to your future.
