Omoyele Sowore Threatens to “Occupy” FCT Police Command Over Arrest of Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer
Reported by Sele Media Africa | www.selemedia.org | Amos Dachung
Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has issued a stern ultimatum to the FCT Police Command, vowing to “occupy” the headquarters if authorities do not immediately release the lawyer and relatives of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu.
Sowore accused police officers of arresting Kanu’s brother and lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow rally in Abuja. He described the act as a direct attack on the right to peaceful protest and warned that the next step would be mass civil action. [1]
At the same time, the police, through the faction led by the Inspector‑General of Police, ordered protesters to steer clear of Aso Rock Villa and other government zones, citing a Federal High Court injunction on demonstrations in those areas. Sowore rejected the order, arguing it was never properly served and thus lacks legal force.
With tensions rising ahead of the protest scheduled for October 20 2025, the situation remains volatile. Civil‐society observers say the unfolding drama signals deeper friction between Nigerian authorities and protest movements over the prolonged detention of Nnamdi Kanu.
