An old video of Nigerian music icon D’banj has resurfaced online, stirring a wave of mixed reactions among Nigerians on social media.
The clip, which shows the entertainer standing on the podium of Winners Chapel headquarters in Ota, Ogun State, captures D’banj addressing the church’s presiding bishop, Dr. David Oyedepo, during a live service.
While some viewers commended the singer for publicly acknowledging his faith and showing respect to Bishop Oyedepo, others questioned the appropriateness of his presence on the pulpit, considering his career in secular entertainment.
The reactions have once again reignited conversations about the intersection of celebrity, spirituality, and the pulpit in Nigerian religious spaces.
Some users praised the moment as “humbling” and a “bold declaration of faith,” while others argued that churches must draw clearer boundaries on who’s allowed to address congregations from the altar. As at press time, neither D’banj nor Winners Chapel has issued a statement regarding the renewed attention the video is receiving.
Sele Media Africa will continue to monitor reactions and provide updates if official comments are made.
